The inside story

The Golden Gate Bridge is a one-mile wide suspension over the Pacific Ocean, connecting the San Francisco Bay and Marin County. It’s the most iconic symbol of San Francisco, California and named one of the “Wonders of the Modern World” by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Opened in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge is possibly one of the most photographed bridges in the world. You can see elements of Art Deco in the design of the towers and lighting scheme. You’ll notice the vibrant color, orange vermilion or international orange, poking from San Francisco’s notorious foggy skyline.

Today, the bridge is a popular travel route for pedestrians, bicyclists and tourists. You can easily tour the surrounding lands and waters, which are home to a variety of wildlife and plant species such as bobcats, coyotes, sea lions and the California Poppy. The Golden Gate Bridge sets the stage for many famous Hollywood films including Star Trek and Superman. This is an iconic American landmark you won’t want to miss.
